In the months leading up to the 2009 NFL Draft, Mark Sanchez was projected as a first
round draft choice. As selection Saturday neared, Sanchez became the fastest-rising
player in the draft as NFL teams spoke openly about their desire to have Sanchez wear
their NFL jersey. Sanchez’s physical skills combined with his charisma, good looks and
obvious passion for football took the football world by storm.

Another flamboyant QB, Joe Namath, once wore a New York Jets jersey with
championship swagger. How does Mark Sanchez think he’ll handle the Big Apple
expectations? Sanchez believes he has the personality to play in New York.

"I feel, you know, a lot of people have said that and that’s great because, I’m an exciteable
young man and I’m ready for a challenge and like they said I’m always smiling. I’m a team
guy first so it’s going be a great challenge, but with those guys around me and with that
offensive line and a great defense that Coach Ryan is putting together, a solid running
game, its going to be a blast. That kind of pressure, you expect that as a quarterback, it’s
what you signed up for and, you know, I learned how to compete and deal with pressure at
USC, so I just need to be bigger and better. So it’s a very exciting, very special time in my
life. I’m excited to get things going and like I said, just get back to New York and start
practicing."
