While the vast majority of Heisman Trophies have been awarded to seniors, there have also
been juniors who have won the bronze sculpture.  Here’s an overview of what these
juniors did following their Heisman Trophy season.

1948        Doak Walker (SMU)                 Earned a third place Heisman finish behind Notre Dame’s Leon Hart.
1950        Vic Janaowicz (Ohio St.)         Was an all-Big 10, but failed to earn All-American or Heisman honors
1963        Roger Staubach (Navy)           Returned for senior season, but a 3-6-1 record shot down Heisman hopes
1974        Archie Griffin (Ohio St.)            Won the Heisman in 1975
1978        Billy Sims (Oklahoma)             Finished second in Heisman voting behind USC’s Charles White
1982        Herschel Walker (Geo)            Played pro ball in the USFL
1988        Barry Sanders (Okl. St.)           Joined the Detroit Lions and rushed for 1,470 yards and 10 TD’s.
1989        Andre Ware (Houston)             Was drafted by the Detroit Lions and threw for 164 yards and one TD.
1990        Ty Detmer (BYU)                       Finished third in the Heisman chase behind winner Desmond Howard
1991        Desmond Howard (Mich.)       Wasn’t officially a junior although he had one year of eligibility.  Leaped to NFL
1994        Rashaan Salaam (Col.)           Became a Chicago Bear and rushed for 1,074 yards and 10 TD’s.
1997        Charles Woodson (Mich.)        Became an Oakland Raider, intercepted five passes and scored one TD.
2003        
Jason White (Okl)                      Led Oklahoma to another national championship game appearance.
2004        
Matt Leinhart (USC)                   Returned for 3rd National Title quest, but lost to Texas in BCS Title game.
