Nickname: No longer

Once know as the "Golden
Knights," UCF's sports teams are
now known simply as the Knights.
That revision was made in 2007.

Mascot: Knightro
He is the official school mascot
and appears at University
functions and sporting events.

Bright House Networks
Stadium
Building an on-campus facility
was a key for the Central Florida
program to keep growing. The
stadium opened in 2007 and has
a seating capacity of 45,301. The
Texas Longhorns were UCF's first
opponent in the Stadium

Football Legends
QB Dante Culpepper arrived in
Orlando for the 1995 season and
provided a tremendous spark to
the University's football program.
During his four-years at the
school, Culpepper passed for
11,412 yards, 84 TD's and ran for
and additional 1,020 yards and 24
scores. Culpepper was drafted by
the Minnesota Vikings with the
11th pick of the 1999 NFL Draft.

University of Central Florida Fast Facts

The University first fielded a football team in 1979 and competed at the Division III level.
Then know as the Golden Knights, the program emerged as a power in Division 1-AA in the early
1990s. The program were a preseason #1 team in 1994.
The program climbed to Division 1-A status in 1996.
With Dante Culpepper in his senior season, the program posted a 9-2 record in 1998. The
team's star quarterback set an NCAA record for completion % (73.4%) and finished 6th in the
Heisman Trophy voting.
The University joined the MAC Conference in 2002, and then departed for C-USA in 2005.
The Knights captured their first conference championship when they defeated Tulsa in the
Conference USA title game.
