The Recruitment of Terrelle Pryor The Last to Sign
|
The most coveted high school recruit in 2008 was Jeannette Jayhawks (Penn.) star Terrelle Pryor. While schools across the nation were rushing to get a commitment from the football star, Pryor took his time in making a decision. So much in fact that the February 6th national signing date passed by without Pryor announcing his collegiate school of choice. The reasoning behind Pryor's delay was reported to be associated his complete focus on helping his teams to win a state championships in both football and basketball.
When Terrelle Pryor final closed in on deciding which college football jersey he would wear, Ohio State and Michigan were the leading contenders. Penn State and Oregon were said to be on the A-list as well. In the end the 6-6, 230 pound prep star signed with the Buckeyes. His press conference choice to wear an Ohio State jersey was not made until Mid-March, a full six weeks after the national signing date.
Pryor was a two-time Pennsylvania Player of the Year. The 5-star prospect drew comparisons to former Texas QB Vince Young with his style of play and stats. Pryor ran for 1,901 yards and 33 touchdowns on 142 carries, averaging 13.4 yards. He completed 85 of 124 passes for 1,790 yards and 21 touchdowns and caught one TD pass.
