- Syracuse first fielded a basketball team in
1899 and was one of college basketball early powers.
- The Orange made their first NCAA
Basketball Tournament appearance in 1957.
- Before he became Syracuse's head
basketball coach, Jim Boeheim was the backcourt partner of Dave Bing. Those two helped Syracuse earn its 2nd NCAA Tourney appearance in 1966.
- Syracuse was a founding member of the
Big East Conference when it was formed in 1979.
- Famous Syracuse alumni include Orange
stars such as Rony Seikaly, Vic Hanson, Sherman Douglas, Dave Bing, Billy Owens, Dwayne "Pearl" Washington, Derick Coleman and Billy Gabor and Jonny Flynn.
