Steve Slaton's 2006 Season in Review
Costly fumbles in a nationally televised game against Louisville
preempted Slaton's 2006 Heisman bid.  This West Virginia Mountaineer
adds electricity every time he carries the ball!  Slaton rushed for 1,744
yards in 2006 and 16 Td's.  The 5-10, 195 pound bruiser will be a junior in
2007 and will team up with fellow Mountaineer and Heisman candidate
QB Pat White for the goal of gaining the Big East Conference title and

9/1 vs.W. Michigan: In a 62-14 win, Slaton runs for 109 yards and
scored 4 TD's.  
  
9/8 vs Marshall:  Steve Slaton ran for 146 yards and two TD's as
WV pulled away late with a 48-23 win.
  
9/13 vs. Maryland: In a 31-14 win ran for 137 yards and 3 TD's.  
Also added 10 yards receiving.
  
9/22 vs. East Carolina: Rrushed for 110 yards and a score to tie a
school record for career touchdowns (47), as WV (4-0) handed
ECU (1-3) their most lopsided loss under third-year coach Skip
Holtz.  Slaton had 143 yards of total offense.
  
9/29:  vs South Florida: Devastating loss for WV and Steve Slaton's
Heisman hopes as the Mountaineers lose to South Florida 21-13.  
WV no longer has national championship aspirations and Slaton
was held to just 54 yards rushing and no scores.
  
10/6:  vs. Syracuse: Despite#13 WV handling Syracuse 55-14,
Slaton was held to just 69 yards and 15 carries.  Slaton also failed
to score.  Slaton will have to make more of an impact to reignite his
Heisman chase.
  
10/20 vs. Mississippi State:  In a 38 to 13 win over the visiting
Bulldogs, Slaton rushes 23 times for 127 yards and a TD.  Slaton
also adds 36 receiving yards.
  
10/27 vs. Rutgers: Steve Slaton rushed for 3 TD's (3rd time this
season) as #7 WV beat Rutgers 31 to 6.  Slaton rushed 16 times
for 73 yards and also had 51 yards receiving on one reception.  
Slaton now has 11 TD's for the season.
  
11/8 vs. Louisville: in a wild 38-31 win over Louisville Slaton ran 17
times for 60 yards and a TD.  He also added 14 yards receiving.  As
we head down the Heisman stretch, not the type of performance to
impress voters.
  
11/17 vs. Cincinnati: In a 28-23 road win for #6 WV, Slaton
amassed 103 yards and 1 TD on 23 carries.  Slaton also made his
mark receiving with 3 catches for 48 yards
  
11/24 vs. Connecticut: Steve Slaton scored 2 TD's as No. 3 WV
blitzed the No. 20 ranked Huskies 66 to 21.  The win secures a Big
East title for WV.  Slaton added 54 rushing yards and 11 receiving
yards....not Heisman producing stats.
