Strasburg "Strikes" strongly in his MLB debut Were you there?
In a performance that generated tremendous national buzz days before he took the mound, Washington Nationals rookie pitcher Stephen Strasburg delivered an unforgettable and dominating performance in the Nats 5-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates in Washington.
With fans on the edge of their seats for every pitch, Strasburg hung 14 strikeouts on the Pirates through seven innings of work. Even more impressive, was the fact that Strasburg avoided giving up any walks to the Pirates lineup.
The 14 K's made partially possible by a fastball hovering around 97 mph set at new franchise record for the most strikeouts in one game. The only blip in the rookies first-game win was a two-run home run that he gave up in the game's 4th inning.
