NFL Pro Bowl Facts and History
  • while most leagues hold their all-star events during the season, the NFL has historically bucked that trend by
holding the Pro Bowl at the season's end.
  • The NFL first held its Pro Bowl following the 1938 season with a January 1939 game held at Los Angeles' Wrigley
    Field.
  • Since the AFL and NFL merged in 1970, the game has officially been known as the AFC-NFC Pro Bowl.
  • After being played in various locations, the contest found a 30-year home when the game was played in Hawaii form
    1980-2009.
  • Pro Bowl rosters are selected by NFL players, coaches and fans.  The fans first got involved with the process in 1995.
  • Players no longer wear their NFL team's full uniform, but instead wear either an NFC or AFC jersey.  Players so wear
    their own team's helmet.
