- The First NBA All-Star Game was held at the Boston Garden in March 1951. Except for 1999, the game has
been held every year since. A lockout forced the game's cancellation.
- The coaches who currently lead the teams with the most wins in their conference through the Sunday two
weeks before the game coach their respective conferences. However, the same coach cannot coach the team in consecutive seasons.
- The starters on NBA All-Star teams are chosen by fan vote.
- At the end of each contest, an MVP is selected. Bob Pettit has won the most All-Star Game MVP's. He won the
award 4 times.
- Lebron James has won the game's MVP award 2 times. When he won his first MVP at the age of 21, he
became the youngest player to win the award.
- The NBA All-Star Game has emerged to be a full weekend event. Besides the game itself, there is the All-Star
Celebrity game held on Friday. The Rookie Challenge is also held on Friday and it features NBA rookies vs. a team of 2nd year players. Saturday events include a D (Developmental League) game, a NBA player Slam Dunk and 3-Point Shootout, Skills and a Shootout competition featuring a retired NBA player, current league player and an WNBA player.
