NCAA Tournament Championships: 7

Under the direction of head coach Adoph Rupp, Joe B. Hall
Rick Pitino and Billy Tubbs, the Kentucky Wildcats have won
the NCAA College Basketball National Championship in the
following seasons.

1948, 1949, 1951, 1958, 1978, 1996, 1998
NCAA Tournament Final Four Appearances
The Kentucky Wildcats have thrived in March
Madness and made it to the NCAA Final Four in the
following seasons.  The Wildcats established a
tremendous Final Four appearance in the 1990's
with three consecutive appearances and two
national championships.

Basketball Facts

  • The University of Kentucky first played
    basketball in 1903.  The team went 1-2 that
    season

  • Legendary head coach Adolph Rupp arrived
    in 1930 and led the Wildcats program until
    1972.  Rupp would go on to become the all-
    time winningest coach in college basketball
    until his record was broken by Dean Smith.
    Rupp's Wildcat teams won 4 NCAA
    championships (1948, 1949, 1951, 1958),
    one NIT title in 1946

  • Kentucky Wildcat head coaches have been
    named the National Coach of the Year on
    three separate occasions.  Eddie Sutton
    1986, Rick Pitino 1992 and Tubby Smith
    2003.
