With humble beginnings, this facility opened in 1950 with a seating
capacity of 15,000. Thanks to the on-the-field success of Seminoles
football under legendary coach Bobby Bowden, the stadium has now
expanded to a capacity of 82,300 fans.

Lighting of the Spear
This Florida State tradition focuses on the
Chief Osceola - Renegade Statue that is
located on campus. At sunset on the night
before each game, Chief Osceola's spear is
lit as a crowd gathers in support. The flame
is extinguished the next morning.
