Clemson Baseball Facts
When it comes to a winning tradition, the Tigers have plenty to
roar about!
  • The University played its first baseball game in 1896, a 20-13 loss to Furman.
  • The namesake of college football's top individual award, John Heisman,
coached Clemson Baseball for four seasons.  Heisman directed the program
    to a 28-6-1 record from (1901-03)
  • Another football legend, Frank Howard, coached the Clemson baseball team in
1943.  His diamond squad earned a 12-3 record.  Howard still ranks as the
University's all-time leader in football wins with 165.
  • In the ACC's inaugural baseball season (1954), the Tigers won the ACC
championship with an 8-4 conference record.
  • Bill Wilhelm began his tremendous Clemson coaching career in 1958.  While
under Wilhelm's direction for 36 seasons, the Tigers posted a 381-158-1
record and guided his clubs to seven CWS appearances.
  • Jack Leggett took the managing reins at Clemson in 1994 following Bill
Wilhelm's retirement and has continued the program's tradition of excellence
    with multiple CWS appearances.
  • Clemson plays its home baseball games at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.  The
venue is affectionately known as "The Doug."
