Garrido was Cal State Fullerton's head coach when the Titans began Division I play in 1975. In the Titans first season at college baseball's top leval, Garrido guided the squad to the CWS. By 1979, Garrido helped to deliver the programs first College World Series Championship. Garrido's Titans teams earned two more titles under his direction in 1984 and 1995, before he eventually left for Texas in 1997. Garrido's coaching career with the Titans actually included two tours. (1973-87) & (1991-1996). While at Cal State Fullerton, Garrido was a four-time National Coach of the Year award winner.
