Red Sox ready to regain title status in 2011

Boston hopes to improve their status in the AL East where they finished 8 games behind the Yankees for the
division crown. Although they were relegated to 2nd place status in the division, the team still gained their
customary playoff spot.
As Boston seeks another strong postseason appearance this year, they will count heavily on a strong nucleus of
players that fans hope will fuel a championship drive.
Second baseman Dustin Pedroia is a spark plug and a fan favorite of Boston fans. Pedroia was the 2007 AL
Rookie of the Year and the 2008 AL MVP. With those award winning moments, it's easy to see why fans love
wearing jerseys and t-shirts featuring Pedroia's #15.
Kevin Youkilis is another fan favorite. The 1B delivers power, intensity and a strong batting average on a regular
basis. Youkilis' #20 Jersey and t-shirts are popular throughout the Red Sox nation.
Jacoby Ellsbury is another key component of the team's lineup. Along with hitting for high average, the team's CF
delivers tremendous speed. After stealing 70 bases in 2009, fans made a run on Ellsbury's #46 t-shirts and jerseys.
From a pitching perspective, two key names relied on by Boston fans include Josh Beckett and closer Jonathan
Papelbon. Beckett was the 2009 team leader with 17-wins while Papelbon led the squad with 38 saves.
David Ortiz and Jason Varitek continue to be favorites among the Boston fan base. Both players have had major
contributions towards the teams resurgence to championship levels.
